Should I Get Coilovers?

I’ve heard that coilover suspensions give the best handling performance. The Real Street suspension looks a lot like less expensive “cup kits” from other manufacturers. Why should I choose the Real Street Kit over a cup kit or inexpensive coilover kit?

The VW front suspension, which is classified as a MacPherson Strut, only really works at one ride height—the factory ride height. As a consequence, the adjustability that a coilover suspension offers is lost on a MacPherson car. In addition, many coilover kits simply cannot reach the correct ride height. Many coilover kits are also supplied with springs that are too soft to adequately control body roll, squat and dive.

Unlike “cup kits” from other manufacturers, the Real Street spring rates and spring lengths have been carefully selected to provide the correct front-end geometry for optimal handling right out of the box, without the need for adjustable spring perches.

While the Real Street Suspension is the best choice for most customers, SRS does offer coilover packages for sale. Our custom coilover packages were first developed for our racecars, but can provide an extra level of control and adjustment for a highly tuned street car or weekend autocross rig. Shine Racing coilover packages include Bilstein shocks, with custom revalving available for high-rate springs.
